Gayle deal could rise to £8 million

It is believed that Bristol have had a bid of around £6million for Gayle accepted by Palace and the transfer fee could potentially rise to £8million depending on future incentives.

But the forward is reluctant to move to Ashton Gate, and has expressed his views to the Palace hierarchy.

“There may be some players moved out but Dwight Gayle will not go anywhere unless his valuation is met”, Pardew was quoted as saying.

Gayle has found starts hard to come by since Pardew’s arrival at Selhurst Park and with Connor Wickham and Patrick Bamford both joining the Eagles this summer, Gayle has been pushed down the pecking order.

Despite injuries Gayle ended his first season with Crystal Palace as the club’s top scorer, bagging seven goals in 23 appearances.

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill is keen to make a big impact on the Championship following last season’s impressive promotion from League One and recognises the need to find a proven goalscorer.

But the Robins are yet to hold talks with the 24-year-old striker, who would have to drop a division to sign for the Championship newcomers.

“He is a player we’d really like”, Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol.

“He’s someone we’d like to have at the football club”. “I don’t think anything has changed whilst we’ve been playing”.
