“I was forced to undergo a surgery and I only informed my parents after the procedure”, Chris Gayle said during the launch of his autobiography “Six Machine” at a city on Friday. “That’s when I cheated death and made a decision to live my life to the fullest, come what may”, he said.

Gayle, who notched 7,214 test runs from 103 matches at an average of 42.18, then touched on the disparity between West Indies test performances after India won the recent four-match rubber 2-0 in the Caribbean. It was a life changing moment for me. Hopefully this book can inspire people around the world.

“It’s definitely a new challenge to be a family man but I now can proudly say that I am a father of a handsome daughter. I hope it can reach far and wide, through cricket and beyond, for these are stories to tell and secrets I have waited a long time toshare”, Gayle said while interacting with mediapersons here. “It’s a different feeling altogether”, he said. “Despite hard times, one should never give up”, Gayle said at the launch. “Most people haven’t seen the other side of Chris Gayle”. It will be as much entertaining as my batting.

Speaking about the difference in quality between the West Indies’ T20 and Test sides, the West Indian stated: “In both formats of the game we struggle to concentrate for long periods of time”.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who was also present on the occasion, termed Gayle as the “true ambassador of cricket”.

But in a very candid interview, Chris Gayle revealed that he started enjoying life only after he underwent a heart surgery in Australia way back in 2005. “The US can definitely be a great market for global cricket and we hope to see more worldwide matches being held there in the future”, he said. “I am confident that “Six machine” will bewell received by cricketing fans around the world” Sehwag said. The preceding test matches in the same series garnered a big viewership of 70 million viewers, despite popular knowledge that test cricket has taken a back seat with the game’s gradual evolution to more fast-paced formats. “Players like Chris Gayle can melt boundaries and bring countries and cultures together”.
