To add to the already impressive school tally, more than two thirds of St Mary’s pupils achieved grades A*-B.

Nathan achieved nine A*s, four As and a B; James achieved seven A*s, five As and a B; and Hannah one A* six As and three Bs.

Mrs. McCloskey said the results were the culmination of “incredibly hard work from both Year 12 students and our teaching staff”.

Year 11 pupils at Buxton Community School have celebrated the school’s most successful GCSE results.

Head teacher Chris Keating said: “I would like to congratulate our students on achieving such positive results”.

“I wish our students the very best in their next steps, whether that is staying on in our new sixth form, moving to further education or an apprenticeship or going into paid employment”.

“These results are a effect of the successful partnership between staff, students and parents”.

“There was the increase of 34% in those having to take English and maths again because they fell below a C grade first time, and the standards were held high”.

“We set targets and try and make the girls work to the best of their abilities but they are young people, not machines, and things can happen in their lives which lead to them becoming disengaged”.

Students have “outperformed expectations” in their GCSE results at Friends’ School today (August 25).

Students at 19 schools across the city received their results on Thursday.
