GCSE results day 2016: ‘Positive attitudes’ key to Castle School success

A total of 62 per cent of all the grades awarded at the school were As or A*, with 27 per cent of pupils gaining the top grade and 47 pupils achieving ten or more A and A*s.

Across the United Kingdom the percentage of pupils getting A* to C scores in 2016 in English fell to 60 per cent and in Maths to 61 per cent – drops of eight and seven per cent respectively.

Schools in Basildon and Canvey were also congratulating their pupils including Basildon Academy, which got its best ever results, and Castle View School where the majority of pupils got A* to C grades.

But in Haringey the number of students getting the best English marks rose to 74 per cent and in maths to 70 per cent – increases of nine and three per cent.

“These results demonstrate an 18 per cent improvement over previous year which was affected by the volatility in English marking experienced by many schools”, he said.

“Just as importantly I am pleased to say that nearly all of our students who leave us this year have enrolled further education or gained employment which is a fantastic accolade and one we are incredibly proud of”.

“We are particularly proud of the progress our students have made, regardless of their prior ability”.

Philip Britton, head of boys’ division, said: “I am very pleased and proud of the achievements of all the boys today – from those with a full set of top A* grades to those who have worked hard to ensure they have passed their subjects well”.

Among the high achievers was Lucy Miller, who scooped 13 A*- C grades, including 11 A*- A grades and Reiss Luke who achieved 13 A*- C grades, including 10 A*- A grades.
