GCSE results: Hard work pays off as pupils deliver for Hayes School

Pupils across Denbighshire were up early this morning to see if their hard work had paid off in their GCSE results.

Against the backdrop of the “rigorous” Progress Eight, introduced by the government to indicate the progress made by students in secondary school across eight key subjects, students also achieved 82 per cent of A*-C in Maths and 28 per cent getting A*-A grades.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the county’s schools for their tireless efforts in preparing students for their examinations”.

Among those celebrating their success was head Boy, Andrew Gaskell who earned A*s in every single subject giving him a total of 10 A*s, Jasmine Hewitt who got 11 A* and A grades and Joshua Ball, Sally Sweeney and Lana Robinson who got great results with 10 A*s and As. Ethan Stout and Lara Forster achieved 13 A*- C grades, including 6 A*- A grades.

“English has now bounced back to previous performance levels having achieved 83 per cent A*-C”.

“Other top performances included Cody O’Doherty with 8A and 2 B grades, Ben Rice with 2 A, 4 B and 4 C grades, Bryan Case 1 A*, 5 A, 3 B and 1 C grades, Niamh McIlroy with 8 A and 2 B grades, Claire McFeely with 4 A, 3 B and 1 C grades and John McCloskey with 1 A*, 3 A and 6 B grades”. “It is a terrific achievement”.

The A* and A pass rate at the school remains at around 30 per cent and continues the positive trend of recent years.

Connor Stalham, of Corwen, achieved eight A* and three A grades, with a distinction in Additional Maths.

Outgoing headteacher Phil Pierce said: “These grades again reflect the excellent team work between school staff, parents and students that is at the heart of their success”.
