The school said 36 per cent achieved the prestigious Ebacc qualification (A* – C in English, Maths, 2 Sciences, History or Geography and an MFL – a suite of 6 subjects.) Twelve departments also posted results above 70%.

“Two of our boys deserve a special mention – Thomas Desborough who achieved nine A grades and one A* and Haroon Hamid who achieved six A grades and one A* grade”.
With 26 results in from 27 of the county’s schools, provisional results show 60 per cent of students received five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C including English and maths.
“We wish all our young people the very best for their futures with the vast majority expected to join our highly successful Sixth Form next week”.
Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni are also celebrating a year of impressive results.
Head Dr Sophina Asong said she was “delighted” with the results this year.

“As for the idea that the Isle of Wight is inward looking we have results this year in French, Spanish, German, Russian and Chinese with 48% of our French candidates getting an A* and three boys from the Island; Thomas Beasley, Luke Sauven and Nicholas Yelland, all passing Chinese GCSE, Nicholas with an A*”. I was pretty much expecting to get these grades.
The student said: “I feel relieved that I didn’t get any Bs but I was hoping for a few more A*s”. In a message to pupils, he said: ” No individual names and grades from me or claims of whole school success – today belongs to each and every one of you and you should share your joy with those who are closest to you and who have supported and encouraged you throughout your school days.

Nearly 60 per cent of all grades awarded were A*s, while 88 per cent of grades were A*s or As, exceeding the school’s previous record.
