Hurriyat Conference (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani Thursday called for a public rally “Million March” at TRC grounds, here on November 7 to counter the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled rally on that day in Srinagar. It is for the first time that the separatist leader has called for staging of a parallel rally and not given a shutdown call. “We want to send a clear message that people are with the freedom movement, not India”, Geelani’s Tehreek-e-Hurriyat spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, said.

However, Akbar said the Hurriyat will give “written assurance” to the state administration that the “Million March” will remain peaceful, “We will seek permission from the district administration and we are ready to give a written assurance that the march will remain peaceful”.

He paid glowing tributes to Abdul Rehman alias Abu Qasim who was martyred by forces yesterday in Kulgam and said that participation of lakhs of people in the funeral procession of martyr was people’s referendum towards the ongoing freedom struggle.

Asserting that their rally would be peaceful, Akbar said, “We will take the responsibility that our proposed “million march” will be peaceful and disciplined in every way. It won’t create any law and order problem and won’t disturb the traffic system”. Later he will address a public rally in Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium, Srinagar on the same day in the afternoon.

“Modi should understand that Kashmiris are not war mongers but are a peace loving nation”.

He hoped that about a million people will take part in the march expected to be addressed by several top separatist leaders. “Rulers of India should fulfil the promises made with the Kashmiri people on national and global fora”, he said.
