Both were rushed to hospital but Bhat succumbed to his injuries on the way, while Burhan passed away this morning. “My heart goes out to the boy’s mother, for whom the it will be an earth-shattering experience”, said Sayeed. Identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Wayil, Pattan area, the killing sparked violent protests.
The deceased, according to police officer, was a contractor by profession and a former released militant. Police suspect hand of local militants into the killing.
On Monday, bullet-riddled bodies of three militants, believed to be belonging to LeI, were found in Dangerpora in Pattan area.
“I along with others will sit on a one day token hunger strike at Pratap Park on Tuesday (September 22) against these killings”, Malik said in the statement. The cops launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.
The killings were followed by a separatist-sponsored shutdown across the Valley and also sparked violent clashes between security forces and protesters.
