Gender equality is against Islam: Kanthapuram
Referring to the allegation of a Muslim woman journalist that children used to be sexually abused at madrasas, the Sunni leader said the allegation was baseless. The Constitution has given full right to women irrespective of their religion.

He reportedly said that “gender equality is something which is never going to be a reality”. Numerous things done by women are not possible by men. Aboobakker Musliyar has made such a regressive remark at a time when attempts are on to create gender equality in all fields and society is on the path of progress, Achuthanandan said. “Moreover, women lacks the strength and guts”, said Kanthapuram, who asked whether there was any lady doctor who dared to conduct a heart surgery.
The Musliar also expressed his views on the controversy surrounding segregation of girls and boys in a Muslim-run education institute in Kerala, saying that allowing boys and girls to sit together in colleges was against Islam. “In property rights too she has inheritance of her father’s, husband’s and son’s property”, he said.

Perhaps worst of all was his assertion that “Gender equality is not practical; women can only give birth, while the world is under the control of men”. Musliyar had earlier drawn the ire of women right groups after he spoke out against women reservation in local governing bodies.
