“W$3 e agree that wind and solar energy development address many of our states’ and the nation’s important needs such as job creation, economic development, reliable and low cost energy, and cost-effective emission reduction…the Coalition’s collaboration with your Administration can bring even more value to our states if you consider the following actions to develop our states’ and the nation’s wind and solar resources”. These governors are leading. “This plan represents the future of NY and will cement our role as a leader in the renewable energy industry for generations to come”. An additional procurement was included for 9.45 terawatt hours of “clean energy generation”, which will come from hydroelectric power imported from Canada or state-side onshore renewables like solar and wind.
Wind energy already reduces carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants in almost every state, avoiding 28 million cars’ worth of CO2 each year in the U.S. As wind energy continues growing, from just over five percent of the country’s electricity today to 20 percent by 2030, so will the benefits.
“In 2014, nearly three-quarters of all USA wood pellet exports were delivered to the United Kingdom (UK), mainly for the objective of generating electricity”, according to an Energy Information Administration (EIA) report published last April.
In June, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority announced its intention to participate in the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management auction for an 81,000-acre Wind Energy Area located 12 miles off the Long Island coast. If it were to win the auction, NYSERDA would be able to lead the development and timing of the site’s progress, ensuring that any project will be developed at the lowest possible cost for electricity consumers while protecting the environment and growing the economy.
Adding wind energy creates clean air and environmental benefits as well.
GM’s pledge to go 100 percent renewable by 2050 makes it one of several dozen large companies that have made a similar pledge, from Walmart, to Unilever, to Apple.
To further prove its commitment to using renewable energy, GM has also joined RE100, which is a group of businesses that share the common goal of utilizing 100% renewable electricity.
The governors in their letter said project’s like Deepwater Wind may be among the best ways to meet national energy demands in a way that also comes with fewer environmental risks than fossil fuels. In terms of adoption, 2016 has been a pivotal year for the solar energy market.
