Gennady Golovkin thinks Kell Brook’s size makes the fight more interesting
Gennady Golovkin tells why he’s relishing the challenge of British boxer Kell Brook on Saturday night.

However, while some observers have called the fight a mismatch, Brook believes he might be more effective at 160lb than he was at 147lb.
However, coach Freddie Roach may not directly disagree with this technical assessment, but he thinks Kell Brook has practically no chance at all to beat GGG and likened it to another match up that previously received wide criticism: Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan. Khan was knocked out in six rounds.
Kazakhstan’s Golovkin, 34, is regarded by some observers as the best pound-for-pound fighter now involved in world boxing. He also referred to GGG as now the best boxer Pound 4 Pound, although he doubts he’ll be as popular as boxers such as Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather.
“GGG” may not be regarded as the home fighter but a proportion of the O2 Arena’s crowd could get behind him due to his association with claret and blue as he battles for supremacy with Brook. “He looks good”, GGG said of his challenger.
On the weekend he faces Brook who has come up two weight divisions to participate in the scrap. “I do fear him”. While GGG has a larger following and has more hype behind him, his calibre of opponents has been a real mixed bag in fact it’s similar to Brooks standard of opposition with Lemieux being GGG’s biggest win he also holds wins over Macklin, Murray, Monroe Jr and a host of largely unknown fighters.
“I want to do what Leonard did with Hagler – use my speed, my footwork and box the flawless fight”, Brook told the BBC on Monday. Another good question is, will Brook’s added bulk slow him down (GGG is also curious about this)? Kell Brooks main problem is he was largely avoided throughout his career, it wasn’t until Kell was 30-0 that he started to gain the recognition he deserved in the States. It is not clear yet as to when Freddie would take over the helm in Manila.
