Gennady Golovkin wins after Kell Brook’s corner throws in towel
In round five, Golovkin came out with abandon and began landing the heavy leather on Brook.

The middleweight champion put Brook under huge pressure to start the fifth round, and Brook was having trouble seeing Golovkin’s punches coming as his right eye swelled.
It was Golovkin’s 17th world middleweight title defence and reaffirmed the Kazakh’s status as the number one in the division. If people look back it was the right decision.
“GGG” wasn’t too happy with his performance and said it was a “3 or a 4”.
There was no doubt that Brook was being rocked by Golovkin.
“He didn’t hurt me at all”.
In the third round Brook was feeling the power of Golovin as he showed swelling on both eyes especially the left eye.
The Briton was exhausted by the start of the fifth, and while he impressively remained on his feet he was gradually offering less in response.
Golovkin continued to pour forward and, with Brook looking increasingly tired, his trainer Dominic Ingle eventually caught the referee’s attention by waving the towel to save his man from further punishment.

The defeat was the first of his otherwise impressive professional record.
The challenger was taken to hospital with a broken eye socket before being released early yesterday morning.
“I’m a boxer, I’m open for everybody, but I want a unification fight”, he said.
“I came back after the second round and said “I can’t see out of the right eye, Dominic”, Brook, said. I could see like three or four of him out of my right eye.
“I would have to go back to the drawing board, I’d be most suited at light-middle”. I’d love the victor of Liam Smith v Canelo.
Golovkin started to show a little frustration and started to throw wild shots and push his punches, instead of letting them flow.
I am a warrior and I wanted to carry on.
“I know my style”. We knew the first five or six rounds were going to be very tough and then we were going to start boxing and taking over.
A showdown with another Briton in the form of WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is an option, as is Chris Eubank Jr.

“He is a very good fighter and I’m sorry he’s not middleweight, he is his weight”, he said of Brook when talking to Sky Sports after the bout. “But he’s not a middleweight”. Golovkin’s going to be too strong for Kell Brook. He didn’t hurt me at all. The 34-year-old Champion gave Brook credit when breaking the fight down, saying: “He just touched but I didn’t feel his power”. I respect Kell. And thanks to his corner. I will give the fans what they want to see. “I am a fully-fledged middleweight, there are no welterweights here”, the 27-year-old said in a video posted on his official Instagram page on Sunday.
