George Clooney says Bernie Sanders is ‘right’ to criticize Hillary Clinton fundraiser

“And you’re not going to have a government that represents all of us so long as you have candidates like Secretary Clinton being dependent on big-money interests”.

“Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd asked the actor about Sanders’ charge that Clinton’s fundraising efforts were “obscene”, and center around those who have “undue influence over the political process”.

Unlike Clinton, who has tapped big donors to fuel her campaign, Sanders has relied on small donations that he says average US$27 per person. “I think-you know that we had some protesters last night when we pulled up in San Francisco and they’re right to protest, they’re absolutely right, it is an obscene amount of money”. So, I think we need a revolution in this country, certainly in campaign finance, that means overturning Citizens United.

The group of about 75 Sanders supporters was outside a counter-fundraiser being held at a home of one of Clooney’s neighbors.

After the San Francisco event, Clinton and the Clooneys will travel to Los Angeles, where the actor will host guests at his Studio City home for another fundraiser on Saturday night.

The debate, aired by CNN, was marked by bitter clashes between the candidates who will face each other in New York’s primary contest Tuesday.

Tickets to the event Clooney hosted cost between $33,400 and $353,400.

Clooney said he tried to engage with pro-Sanders protesters outside the event, but was called a “corporate shill”, an accusation he laughed off. “That’s one of the funnier things you could say about me”.

Bernie Sanders has built an incredible online fundraising machine, and he could generate a lot of goodwill by doing a little fundraising to help Democrats retake the Senate.

That figure was still far below the millions earned by his main Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, in recent years.

Clooney himself agreed with Sanders’ criticism of the high dollar amounts being raised. “We all need to be concerned about the greed and recklessness on Wall Street, that’s why I have a plan to go after them”. “I like him”, Sanders commented during an appearance on CNN.
