George Clooney slams ‘obscene’ sums of money in U.S. political campaigning

“I agree completely”, and adding that he considers the amount needed for such campaigns to be “obscene”. “The difference is if I succeed, if we succeed in electing an entire Congress which would be quite a success but a senate and a president, you know, the tax policies that they would enact would probably cost us a lot more money, quite honestly”.

Actor George Clooney says Bernie Sanders is “absolutely right” to criticize the big-money fundraisers he co-hosted for Hillary Clinton over the weekend.

George Clooney is an avowed supporter of Hillary Clinton but concedes Bernie Sanders is right about the state of USA political campaigns.

George Clooney calls the amount of money he raised for Hillary Clinton “obscene” and wants that kind of money out of politics.

Sanders’ campaign ran a television commercial at approximately 8 p.m.in the Los Angeles market, promoting his $27 average contribution.

The first three lines from the 1933 song commonly known as “We’re in the Money” could be heard on speakers at a nearby house where a pro-Sanders counter-fundraiser was being held Saturday as the motorcade drove by.

Facing a string of competitive contests with Sanders, Clinton depicted the Vermont senator as favoring the gun lobby over crime victims, while saying she would push for stronger background checks for gun buyers.

Instead, Clooney said, “It’s going to the down ticket, it’s going to the congressmen and senators to try to take back Congress”. That is a movement toward oligarchy’.

“This is the issue of American politics today”.

LOS ANGELES-Even though both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders weren’t in NY over the past 48 hours-travelling or campaigning elsewhere instead-the high tensions in the Democratic race haven’t eased as Tuesday’s primary in the Empire State nears.

Clinton’s campaign defended the fundraisers on Friday by knocking Sanders for not raising money for Democrats, something Sanders has just recently started doing, not near the level Clinton has. Do we have a government that represents all of us, or just the one per cent?

“I don’t think anybody does”.

Clooney was also asked if he had ever met Sanders. “He was nice, and we talked a couple of times I think, and then he went on Larry King and told everybody I was very short”. Clooney told NBC that they were right to protest.
