George Lucas apologises for ‘white slavers’ remark about Disney
George Lucas apologized Thursday (December 31) for comparing Disney to “white slavers” during an interview in which he criticized the latest incarnation of “Star Wars”, the movie franchise he created.

During the interview in question, George revealed: “I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and…”, before laughing and not finishing the sentence.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has become a record setter for setting the fastest time in passing the $1 billion mark at the box office, achieving it much faster than any movie before it. All box office records, domestic and worldwide, have been decimated as the movie continues to produce profit from global sales.
In a 50-minute interview with Rose, Lucas discussed his long career as well as the task of parting ways with the space opera he’s been a part of since 1977.
“I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership”, Lucas said in his statement.
In the statement, Lucas said Disney is moving the franchise in exciting directions. “And so I said, “Okay, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way”, he said.
“They wanted to a do a retro movie”. “Every movie I work very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships, make it new”.
No spoilers, but the movie does hit a lot of the same plot points as previous “Star Wars” films. “Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise”.
But surely many who have seen “The Force Awakens” would be in agreement with Lucas on another point he made to Rose. It has, of course, pleased the fans.
Calling Disney “slavers” seems pretty harsh, especially considering the company forked over $4 billion for Lucasfilm and all of its properties, including that galaxy far, far away.
