George Lucas says sorry for Disney ‘white slavers’ slam
“All the Star Wars films”, Lucas said.

“Star Wars” creator George Lucas apologised Thursday for an interview in which he criticised the latest film and referred to Disney, which bought the rights to the blockbuster franchise, as “white slavers”.
He went on to make similar comments about people and perhaps specifically Disney, as having the wrong idea about what Star Wars is.
“I don’t like that”. “I worked very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships – you know, to make it new”, he said.
Lucas, who made the harsh comments in an interview with Charlie Rose, also praised Disney’s leadership and their work as custodians of “Star Wars”.
Lucas added: “Most of all, I’m blown away with the record-breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of [director JJ Abrams] and [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy]”.
George Lucas may have mixed feelings about parting ways with the galaxy he built. And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.'” He then compared the situation to a breakup, saying that there are certain “rules” after a breakup: “No phone calls, don’t drive past their house or go to their coffee shop, because you’re “opening the wound again”. “They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing”. But you have to just cut it off and say Okay, end of ball game, I got to move on.

In his statement Thursday, Lucas said he was thrilled about Disney’s plans for the franchise. “Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise”. It was for the Kennedy Center Honors and conducted prior to the premiere of the film. He acknowledged that, even before selling to Disney, he could never simply put others in charge of the space films and felt he “had to stand over the shoulder of the director, help him, whisper in his ear constantly, ‘No, do this”.
