The 63-year-old Texan always left an out clause in last year’s farewell tour, and “tour” turned out to be the operative word for the 48-show farewell jaunt leading to an all-star finale, “The Cowboy Rides Away”, in front of almost 105,000 people in Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.
George Strait will be among the first entertainers to play Las Vegas’ new state-of-the-art arena in April 2016, returning to the venue again next September.
“I’m really proud of this album, ” Strait said in his aw-shucks West Texas drawl.
But the iconic performer made it clear that he would continue to play select dates and bring music to his fans, and at a press conference at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Tuesday (Sept. 22), the King of Country announced a series of four very special performances at the brand-new Las Vegas Arena, which is opening in April of 2016.
The news of his concerts comes a day before Strait is set to release a new single called “Cold Beer Conversation“. “I’ve been working a little bit here and there”.
“I always say this: I think it’s one of the best records I’ve done”.
“I’m very excited to be coming back out and playing for the fans out there”.
“I didn’t want to do another structured tour”, Strait explained of his semiretirement.
Here’s a YouTube video of this morning’s announcement with George. But the Las Vegas deal allows him to “play a couple of dates here and then go home for a while….”
