George Strait drops new album, will play Las Vegas in 2016

And even though he has stopped touring, the Country Music Hall of Famer plans four 2016 shows at the new Las Vegas Arena – April 22-23 and September 9-10. MGM execs say this is the first of an exciting lineup.

Strait’s final tour was never meant to convey his final performance, however.

Tickets for Strait’s Las Vegas run go on sale October 2.

The date for the arena’s opening night and that headliner are still be to announced.

“I’m really proud of this album, ” Strait said in his aw-shucks West Texas drawl. “There’s no particular inspiration for this record, other than going out and making the best record I can make”. “I always shoot for that”, Straight said. “I’m excited about it and excited to come out and play for the fans again”. I’m looking forward to it so much.

Later, after running through the venues he’s played over the years, Strait said Las Vegas “kind of feels like home”. “There’s no formula that I can say, ‘This is how you do it.’ I just know a song that fits me when I hear it”. “I can’t wait”.

A new album, “Cold Beer Conversation“, is coming out Friday, with the title track being released as a single Wednesday.

Strait, known to many fans as “The Cowboy”, has lots of awards under his belt, including entertainer of the year from the Academy of Country Music in 2014.

MGM’s Las Vegas Arena, in partnership with AEG, is a privately funded $375 million indoor arena set to open in April.

“In 1981, when I signed with MCA Records, it seems like yesterday”, Strait recalls.

“Las Vegas has been part of my country music career”, he said.
