Maryland was one of 29 states to see its unemployment rate decline last month, with the rate slipping from 5.2 percent in July and 5.7 percent a year ago. It was 7.1 percent in August 2014.
The preliminary Omaha rate dropped two-tenths of a point from July to hit 3 percent in August.
“The trends have been pretty positive, particularly in service sector jobs”, Michael Pakko, an economist at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, told Arkansas Business. The growth came mainly in the construction industry, which added 2,400 jobs.
A June survey of employers found that seasonally adjusted non-farm payrolls remained around 5.85 million after dropping by about 2,900 jobs. The national job-growth rate was 2.1 percent. There was a decrease of 200 jobs between the preliminary and the revised July estimates due to the inclusion of more data. The August 2014 figure was 3.1 percent.
Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force declined by 12,000 in August to 6,415,000.
