Officer Whitney responded to a 911 call about a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 29 North at around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, August 16.

“Hurry, hurry, hurry, it’s going to blow up”, the caller told dispatchers.

Whitney arrived on scene to find the auto in flames.

The collision was so intense, the entire frame of the SUV was bent, jamming the vehicle’s doors.

The video shows the officer run to his vehicle and gets a fire extinguisher and tried to put out the fire, but it does no good.

“I need a fire extinguisher or a garden hose”.

Officer Whitney was able to pull the man through a rear window though.

Officer Whitney reacted right away when he got to the scene he saw the vehicle against a tree and the passenger inside yelling for help. The officer’s body cam captured him scrambling for his fire extinguisher and desperately trying to put out the scorching flames.

“Without Whitney’s rescue, the passenger likely would have suffered the same tragic death as the driver, as the backseat was completely melted and gutted within minutes”, police said.
