Georgia prisoner charged with felony homicide of sheriff – who died while

An escaped Georgia prisoner charged within the death of a Montgomery County sheriff – who died while chasing him – was captured a concise distance from a jail.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton confirmed late Tuesday that Jim Edward Lowery was back in custody hours after he fled outside the Laurens County jail, about 100 miles west of Savannah.

According to the release, Lowery “managed to get the shackles off of his legs as the vehicle he was being transported in arrived at the Laurens County Jail”.

Authorities warned that Lowery is considered unsafe.

Lowery was being moved by deputies from nearby Treutlen County.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office confirms they and Treutlen authorities are searching for an escaped inmate outside the Laurens County Jail. “Lowery’s handcuffs were later found in the roadway still intact”. “They were in the process of moving where he was being housed”.

More than 100 law enforcement officer are he;ping with the search.

Authorities say the fatal June chase began when deputies assisting a motorist on the roadside noticed an approaching vehicle turn suddenly, as though the driver hoped to avoid being spotted.

Lowery was leg shackled and handcuffed with double locked cuffs. Montgomery County Sheriff Ladson O’Connor crashed in the pursuit and was killed. Also caught and charged was Lowery’s passenger, Nicole Dixie Best.
