Georgia running back Sony Michel fractures forearm

He could be ready for the start of the season, though Georgia won’t want to rush him back.

University of Georgia football running back Sony Michel is recovering after he fractured his left forearm, the school said.

The latest injury to Michel would seem to put even more pressure on Georgia at quarterback, where heralded freshman Jacob Eason will have a chance to unseat returning starter Greyson Lambert in a competition that also includes Brice Ramsey.

It appeared Isaiah McKenzie got the rumors started by posting a picture of Michel on Instagram, along with a cryptic caption that simply read, “Get well soon”.

The Plantation, Fla. -native underwent successful surgery Monday morning at Athens Regional Medical Center to fix the broken arm. Michel is expected to make a full recovery.

Michel’s injury means there now are concerns about the Bulldogs’ top two tailbacks.

In fact, it was Chubb’s injury that opened the door for Michel’s breakout season in 2015.

Last season as a sophomore, Michel rushed for an impressive 1,161 yards and 8 touchdowns. He ran for eight touchdowns. He added 26 receptions for 270 yards and an additional three scores. Both Michel and Chubb’s timetables for recovery are uncertain. Tae Crowder, Elijah Holyfield, Brian Herrien and recently-converted Shaquery Wilson are all options for the Bulldogs, too. He played through a broken bone in his right hand last season sustained against Florida.
