Georginio Wijnaldum and Newcastle Dutch contingent hoping for ‘luck’ in

Midfielders Georginio Wijnaldum and Wesley Sneijder scored in the 33rd and 50th minutes respectively to ensure the fight for third spot in Group A goes down to the final round of qualifiers on Tuesday.

With the points seemingly assured, Van Persie came on to make his 100th appearance, though the Dutch were given a fright when Islambek Kuat struck a 96th-minute Kazakh consolation.

And that will mean everything will be on the line next Tuesday when the Dutch welcome the Czech side to Amsterdam and Turkey host current group leaders Iceland.

Head coach Blind, meanwhile, claimed his side are not feeling any nerves despite the importance of securing a victory and insisted playing on an artificial surface in Astana will be no excuse for a poor performance.

Kazakhstan drew its last qualification match 0 – 0 with Iceland. The 1988 winners started the day fourth in Group A, two points behind the play-off spot held by Turkey with two games to play. The Dutch need a few extraordinary luck and an improbable favour from Iceland if they are not to miss out on their first major tournament since Van Gaal failed to guide them through qualifying for the 2002 World Cup.

Holland have qualified for every European Championship since 1984.

“We are all very much aware that his is our last chance”, Wijnaldum told reporters.

Tim Krul was given a rare start in goal for the Dutch as Jasper Cillessen hurt himself in the warm-up but Krul was also injured with 10 minutes left, allowing Jeroen Zoet to debut as the 750th Netherlands global.

Robin van Persie admits celebrating his 100th cap will be far from his mind if the Netherlands fail to reach the Euro 2016 finals.

“We struggled a bit from there on due to their opportunistic style of play”.

Danny Blind’s team took the lead after 33 minutes when Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Young winger Anwar El Ghazi was handed his first senior cap for the Oranje and the 20-year-old had two early chances to open his tally for his country.
