German authority KBA orders recall of 2.4 million Volkswagen cars
Volkswagen AG is being forced into a mandatory recall of about 2.4 million diesel cars in Germany after authorities rejected the carmaker’s proposal for a voluntary callback.

“We are ordering the recall”, a spokesman for KBA told Reuters Thursday, confirming an earlier report by the German newspaper Bild. The disclosure sent shock waves across the auto industry globally, and wiped out about 30 billion euros from the company’s market value.
The embattled automaker is under pressure to identify those responsible for the emissions deception and replace parts or update software in 11 million of its diesel vehicles worldwide. The firm also suspended the sale of a few of its diesel vehicles in various countries.
The recall is to replace the cheating software that manipulates the vehicles’ real emission tests.
However, Audi Volkswagen Korea had not recalled the affected models since the defect was discovered in 2013, during inspections by the Environment Ministry.

Last week, VW put forward a plan to begin recalling the vehicles from January 2016.
