Germany’s response to the European refugee crisis has attracted praise on various occasions, including from US President Barack Obama and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres.

“One can not manage that alone, Greece can not do it alone”, Merkel told a joint news conference with Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipila in Berlin. “We have to speed up our negotiations”.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s popularity has sunk to its lowest level this year in the wake of criticism over her handling of the migration crisis.

Speaking at the launch of a biography of her longtime rival, former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Merkel said he “did a service to our country” with the economic reforms and welfare-state trims he launched in 2003. Now Germany is reevaluating its position and wants to impose quotas.

Only last month Merkel’s government declared Germany’s border open to all Syrians, prompting a rush of migrants which overwhelmed the nations police and exhausted all available places for asylum seekers to stay.

Merkel has been rooting for years towards the reduction of global warming factors – including transportation pollution – has also been pressured by the need to safeguard her country’s automotive industry. Ankara has been vocal in criticizing the global community for not providing adequate support. “We should also immediately mobilise billions of euros for Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey“.
