The fans had arrived from Marseille, France, where fighting between Russian and English fans supporters marred the build-up to their Euro 2016 clash.

The Russians “beat and kicked” their victims, leaving one seriously wounded with a broken nose, police said, without giving details on what sparked the attack.

Russian Federation have been handed a “suspended disqualification” from Euro 2016 by UEFA, but this will only be invoked if their fans cause more trouble INSIDE stadiums in France. The sixth was subsequently arrested at Cologne-Bonn airport, where the suspects had been due to board a flight.

The men had European Championship tickets for two Russian matches against England and Slovakia, and were carrying “typical objects used by hooligans including masks and gumshields”.

Police said that ZIS, a German police division for sports-related violence, will contact the French authorities as they seek to determine whether the Russians were involved in the Marseille riots.

“This consular assistance would, of course, provided”.
