Mr. Pinnick told thenff.com that the agreement was for two years, with the former German defender, who also coached top French club Girondins Bordeaux and elite Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel.

The NFF made the announcement through a tweet on its Official twitter account.

For the first time in nearly six months, the Super Eagles of Nigeria now has a substantive coach, as German tactician Gernot Rohr has signed a two-year deal to become technical adviser of the team.

News24 had reported that Rohr was selected by the technical committee of the NFF.

At a simple ceremony at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, and general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, signed on behalf of the Nigeria federation, in-between Mr. Rohr’s own signature.

Rohr’s appointment will now put to bed the embarrassment caused by NFF’s naming of Paul Le Guen as technical adviser, only for the Frenchman to turn down the offer. “He was very positive, showed great interest in the job and is ready and willing to live in Nigeria”.

He then coached Bordeaux when they lost to Bayern in the 1996 UEFA Cup final and last worked in Africa as Burkina Faso coach before joining the DFB.

He is expected to take charge of the Eagles, in next month’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania, before the 2018 World Cup qualifiers begin in October.

Nigeria have been drawn in the same group as Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.
