German shepherd survives 5 weeks on California freeway
The police in Galt, about 25 miles southeast of Sacramento, first got a call April 10 from someone who reported seeing Frida fall out of a pickup truck, KCRA reported.

Police are looking for the owner of a German shepherd that was rescued from the median of Highway 99 near Simmerhorn Road in the community of Galt over the weekend.
“She was taken to Bradshaw vet for a broken leg and malnutrition/dehydration”, they wrote in a Facebook post on May 14.
“For the past five weeks, we’ve gotten calls every other day from people reporting an injured dog on the median”, Coelho told ABC News today.
A German shepherd has earned the nickname “Freeway Frida” after surviving in a highway median for almost five weeks. But that changed at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, when Coelho said they heard that Freeway Frida was seen. She weighed 44 pounds when she was found, much less than normal weight for her size and breed.
Galt police officer Sylvia Coelho says the California Highway patrol assisted the department with her capture Saturday.
“She just laid down and looked at us with those big brown eyes and was like, ‘Oh thank you, ‘ and like, ‘Please help me, ‘” Coelho told KRCA.
Her rescuers and veterinarian marvel at how she was able to survive those weeks in the median. She’s lacking a microchip and tags, so police are hoping her owner comes forward. As of Wednesday, she tipped the scales at 53 pounds, said Coelho, who visited the dog and took her outside for a walk.

“I think because we’ve had the rain on-and-off, that helped”, added Officer Coelho. “Just be a responsible pet owner”.
