The pitch of the stadium was also in shambolic state as the Black Stars were held on a 1-1 draw against Rwanda.

The 2015 finalists had already secured top spot in Group H with a game remaining, but a weakened side, who led through Samuel Tetteh’s first global goal, were pegged back late on by Muhadjiri Hakizimana’s fine free-kick.

Ayew stepped in after Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sport said it will not pay for the travel of foreign-based players for the match against Rwanda in Accra.

Ghana, who were missing several top players because they had already qualified for the finals tournament in Gabon, dominated the game but Amavubi held on to earn a precious point that will definitely be handy when the next Federation Internationale de Football Association ranking are released this month.

With MOYS deciding that its funds would be better spent elsewhere, Ayew has made a decision to step in even though the West Ham player is now out injured.

“Unfortunately there are a few players who are unable to pay for themselves, so Andre Ayew has chose to pay for them”.

“If we want the best from our players, we must give them the necessary tools to get the best out of them”. “And although Ayew is injured he will come to Accra to support the players”.
