GHOSTBUSTERS Banned in China, But Not For THAT Reason

Paul continued: “If you know Kate at all she’s this kind of pansexual beast where it’s just like everybody who’s around her falls in love with her and she’s so loving to everybody she’s around”. While even the biggest flop can recoup losses overseas, Ghostbusters finds itself at a massive disadvantage in the worldwide market, as it’s just been denied a Chinese release.
The rocky road to release continues for the new “Ghostbusters” movie. Recent Hollywood movies that have fallen foul of this rule include Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
China has banned the “Ghostbusters” reboot. “The reboot, however, has been reworked as ‘超能敢死队, ‘ meaning ‘Super Power Dare Die Team.'” So maybe there was some thought it was eligible, but it was ultimately rejected upon further consideration.
The country has a history of not allowing movies involving the supernatural from being seen there.
Ghostbusters, which has been at the center of controversy since the film was first announced, has received mixed reviews from critics, but the Reporter’s source said the decision not to bring the film to China has nothing to do with that.
A Chinese executive told THR that the China Film Co. made its decision “because they think it’s not really that attractive to Chinese audiences”.
