‘Ghostbusters’ box office scares up solid $46 million opening
Maintaining the top spot at the box office was “The Secret Life of Pets” from Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. It may make more domestically than Zac Efron and Aubrey Plaza‘s other collaboration from this year, Dirty Grandpa, which earned $35.6 million. As far as USA viewers are concerned, it received a rather mixed response that only garnered it US$46 million for its opening weekend. Alexander Skarsgård’s The Legend of Tarzan fell to third with a $11.1 million, bringing it’s total gross to $103 million in its third week of release ($180 budget to make).

Despite coming in line with expectations, Ghostbusters earned $46 million to land at #2.
Disney’s “Finding Dory” – the sequel to “Finding Nemo” – came in fourth place with $11 million, breaking records again this week by becoming the highest-grossing animated domestic release. Critics generally liked the movie, and opening-weekend audiences gave it a “B+” grade, according to market-research firm CinemaScore.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, starring Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick, also dropped one place to number five with $7.5m (£5.7m).
