Ghostbusters Can’t Scare Off Secret Life of Pets
However, it was not enough to beat “The Secret Life of Pets” for the top spot at the box office.

The Secret Life of Pets is the top draw for a second week in a row; though it dropped to an estimated $50.6 million in revenue, it managed to keep Ghostbusters in a second-place finish with an estimated $46 million.
Go fetch!: The Secret Life Of Pets hit No. 1 for a second weekend, topping all comers with $50.6 million. The relative success of the film, starring the likes of Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon, will now nearly certainly result in addition chapters for the re-launched Ghostbusters story.
This weekend saw the highly-anticipated release of the all-new, female-led Ghostbusters film. After all, dusting off the ectoplasm was expensive, with Sony shelling out $144 million to make “Ghostbusters” and millions more to market the film.
At first glance, it may look like Blake Lively’s shark thriller The Shallows won’t be taking a huge bite out of the USA box office as it’s now dropped out of the Top 10 after just 4 weeks. While the Ghostbusters reboot told a similar story as the original, it did so with the twist of a villain (albeit a weak one) driving up paranormal activity in New York City.
Are you excited to hear about the possibility of more Ghostbusters?
In the face of harsh pre-release criticism, Sony stuck to its guns with ‘Ghostbusters’ by giving the movie a very wide release and promoting the hell out of it – and it paid off. That didn’t stop Ghostbusters from projecting a fairly successful $46.5 million opening gross. The same analyst says there is an asterisk next to the opening weekend numbers. It is just not clear if that can be said about ghost busting movies yet.
The Disney’s animated comedy “Finding Dory” was fourth with 11 million dollars, down 47 percent from last weekend.

It’s no bad thing: even if you didn’t enjoy the first movie particularly (I didn’t, sue me), there was a lot of promise in there. Worldwide, “Finding Dory” has earned 721.7 million dollars. “The Legend of Tarzan” was directed by David Yates, the screenplay was written by Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer. “Independence Day: Resurgence”, $16.2 million. 7.
