Ghostbusters reboot barred from the big screen in China
As I type this there are 939,711 dislikes on the video on Sony’s official YouTube channel and only 267,500 likes, and the comments are ruthless. Specifically, the Critics’ Choice Awards have separate categories for comedies, where Feig’s films have picked up nominations: “Bridesmaids”, “The Heat” and “Spy” all contended for Best Comedy Movie, with “Bridesmaids” prevailing. Jones is definitely not a token black character in the film, and Feig and Dippold obviously knew better than to write a character like that.

The movie kicks off with a tour guide (Zach Woods) at the Aldridge Mansion pointing out the estate’s face bidet, its anti-Irish security fence, and a door that shall always remain locked lest something evil emerge from the basement. But one of the film’s saving graces comes from the chemistry that Wiig and McCarthy share. The movie was entertaining without feeling like I was watching a new cast recreate the exact same movie I loved 32 years ago.
The new “Ghostbusters” stars Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones in the roles originally created by Ramis, Ackroyd, Murray and Hudson.
Together with engineer Jillian Holtzmann (McKinnon) and NYC transit worker/historian Patty Tolan (Jones), they’re out to save NY and build a new Ghostbusters franchise, the latter being the toughest task. Neil Casey’s character could have used a lttle more work as the film, as it seemed to gloss over why the creepy character was motivated to unleash ghosts upon New York Cty. People desperately grasp around to try to make sense of things that they don’t want to happen if that thing is happening, and people have dedicated two years of their lives to being angry we exist. “I moved to New York City to finish college at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology, ) did standup my second night there, then said, ‘I’m going to go a different direction.’ I changed everything”. Kevin’s brought on board exclusively on the basis of his looks as he has absolutely no hirable skills, although he’s undeniably sweet and extremely easy on the eyes.
McKinnon’s character was too jokey and quirky and Strong’s character just seemed too awkward. She is best known for skewering Hillary Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres, and Justin Bieber.
Leslie Jones, of “SNL“, is stuck playing the soul sister part, but she has a few amusing freestyle moments, as does McKinnon.
Reboots are rarely good ideas, but this one is helped greatly by making its main cast all women – at least it feels like an attempt to cut a new path, instead of appeasing nostalgia crybabies out for blood.
The reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise, directed by Paul Feig, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
That tweaks slightly the Chinese title of the 1984 original, which translated as Ghost Catcher Dare Die Team.
Only things that I make up from now on, I’ll tell you that much.
Before the film was released, there were skeptics who didn’t believe in the concept of casting females as the lead ghostbusters. It’s safe to say that nobody’s childhood will be ruined by the latest Ghostbusters.
The plot follows similarly to the original, which is probably a huge critique to some.

P.S. Be sure to stick around for the credits.
