Giant lizard surprises Formula One driver Max Verstappen on Singapore GP track

Max Verstappen felt like his Red Bull Formula 1 vehicle “was driving me” during Singapore Grand Prix qualifying, as hopes of challenging Mercedes for pole evaporated.

Looking ahead to the race, Red Bull opted to use the more durable supersoft tyre in the second round of qualifying, giving Ricciardo a chance to run a much longer first stint than pole-sitter Rosberg, who set his fastest Q2 time on ultrasofts. So I did what I had to do and the last sector was good.

“I think today the vehicle was driving me because I couldn’t feel it like I wanted to”.

Ted Kravitz gives his thoughts on Saturday’s qualifying session at the Singapore Grand Prix. “We expected other teams to do it as well so we were a bit surprised that we were the only one”.

Mercedes’ qualifying performance may suggest they have cured their Singapore woes of 2015, but Daniel Ricciardo insists Red Bull still have a chance of defeating F1’s world champions in Sunday’s race.

“It was always the plan, even before the weekend”, said Ricciardo.

“There will be some curveballs with safety cars and whatnot, but at least we’re at the pointy end”.

“The Supersoft is what we’re going to start the race on and we seem to be the only team in the top ten doing that so hopefully it works for us”, said Ricciardo.

“If we can get the start we want I think we can control the situation tomorrow, but it’s not a predictable race”.
