Giant red ball gets loose, rolls around downtown Toledo
Members of an impromptu “recovery team”, including museum staff, a waiter, and other passers-by, pursued the ball and quickly got ahold of it, according to The Toledo Blade. Yes, you did read that correctly.

The ball was eventually corralled and returned to the museum where it can be viewed through the weekend.
It had been comfortably sitting in its rightful spot – between a jewelry store and a restaurant – for the museum’s Redball Project exhibit, that is until it broke free with a little help from a thunderstorm!
Kelly Garrow, director of communications at the museum, told ABC News, “It started pouring rain, so the ball was wet and slippery”.
“The ball is actually made of the same material as a rubber life raft, so luckily, it was fairly easy to patch”, Garrow said.
Brooklyn artist Kurt Perschke’s RedBall Project has been to more than 300 locations in 25 cities, but none had the performance art quality of Wednesday’s breakaway moment fueled by a gust of wind and caught on video. People took selfies and kids did their best to try and move it.
“The guy whose vehicle it rolled over had a laugh about it. He’s a fan of the project, and it didn’t damage anything except the sign it hit”, he said. “Through the magnetic, playful, and charismatic nature of the RedBall the work is able to access the imagination embedded in all of us”.
“It’s a huge soft ball that doesn’t crush things”, Perschke said.
