Giants aware of Pierre-Paul’s fireworks injury

Until then, if the Giants question the injury or his future after the fireworks incident, they can revoke his franchise tag. It might as well impact his play during the season, if his hands are not 100 percent. One finger is being checked for nerve damage, according to the report.

Multiple outlets are now reporting that the flesh on Jason Pierre-Paul’s hand was burned off of his palm and fingertips, but the fingers are still intact, which contradicts early false reports. But with the market for premium pass-rushers at an all time high, all signs point to Pierre-Paul leaving the Giants next off-season.

Aside from potentially self-induced firework accidents, Pierre-Paul has battled through on-field injuries throughout his career as well.

New York used its franchise tag on him four months ago.

That all changed when the two-time Pro Bowler was involved in a freak accident on the 4th of July that involved fireworks. This means he is not under contract, per Hanzus.

Pierre-Paul was sent to the hospital after suffering a hand injury while attempting to light fireworks in Florida.

The New York Giants and Jason Pierre-Paul saw firsthand the troubles that celebrating the Fourth of July can bring, specifically using fireworks. It could also be his way of avoiding any unnecessary injury which could severely affect congtract negotiations.

The interesting wrinkle here is that Pierre-Paul hasn’t signed his franchise tender yet and isn’t under contract. He will be worth a lot more than that when he hits the free agent market. Per National Football League rules, the sides have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal. The bad news is, according to NFL.com, the incident caused the Giants to yank a $60 million contract offer off the table.

If the Giants do in fact lost Pierre-Paul, their defense will take an enormous hit. He had 121/2 sacks and three forced fumbles previous year.
