Giants’ Bumgarner has no-hitter through 6 innings

Giants starter Madison Bumgerner had his no-hitter broken up when Jake Lamb singled with one out in the eight inning for the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park on Sunday night. This would be the first for Bumgarner.

The Diamondbacks were definitely scratching all night. Blanco was charged with a two-base… The right-hander, who beat San Francisco on April 18, is winless in his last four starts.

When Bumgarner set down pitcher Archie Bradley to begin the sixth inning, it was his 12 strikeout of the game.

I’m not normally one to “LOL!’ I’m a ‘haha” guy myself.

If Bumgarner (10-4) appeared as impenetrable as he was in the 2014 postseason, the shadows accompanying the 5:09 p.m. start time – when most home playoff games began – might have contributed to the overall feel.

Prior to the hit in the eighth, Lamb was Arizona’s only baserunner, reaching on a misplayed ball in rightfield by Gregor Blanco that went for an error in the fifth. “He was on top of his game”.

The Giants lefty fanned Arizona’s first five hitters twice apiece, faced just one over the minimum and the Diamondbacks didn’t hit a ball out of the infield until Lamb’s fly ball in the fifth.

The southpaw rolled up a double-play a few pitches later, and pitched the ninth, finishing off a complete game shutout with 117 pitches.

Madison Bumgarner has blossomed into one of the best pitchers in all of Major League Baseball. “It hasn’t worked out for me”. I’ll take the shutout.

San Francisco was attempting to become the first team with no-hitters in five consecutive seasons. His final line: complete game, one hit, no runs allowed, 14 strikeouts. He will not pitch at the All-Star Game in San Diego on Tuesday. He dropped his ERA to 1.94 this season.

“The longer that no-hitter goes on, the harder it is to get that hit to break it up”, Hale said after the Diamondbacks were swept for the seventh time this season. “He did what he wanted to do”.

The Giants (57-33) have the best record in baseball at the break for just the second time in the San Francisco era. They also did it in 1993 with a 59-30 mark.

Crawford added to his team-high RBI total with a sacrifice fly, then tacked on two more when his double scored Brandon Belt and Posey in the seventh inning. He rung up Brandon Drury on three pitches – called cutter, fouled curve and a fastball that slipped past a swing into Buster Posey s mitt. “That’s why I don’t have a problem with it. You can increase this roster another 10 players and somebody’s still going to get snubbed”.

“The fun thing about what’s happening is everyone is doing something”, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. 2B Joe Panik (concussion) could be back with the big league club for either of the upcoming road series in Boston or NY….
