Giants coach Ben McAdoo: We must improve in Week 2

Counting a last second field goal by the Carolina Panthers, the Giants lost 6 games previous year in the fourth quarter.

On the positive side, the linemen kept rookie quarterback Dak Prescott off the turf. Dallas kicker Dan Bailey had already hit a pair of field goals over 50 yards and looked ready to put the Giants away with another, but wide receiver Terrence Williams failed to run out of bounds and stop the clock already in Giants territory, thus handing the Giants the victory.

Instead, the defense was left to close the Cowboys out.

Although Elliott managed to score the Cowboys’ only touchdown on an 8-yard dash, the play more or less was a result of a Giants error made by Kerry Wynn when he overran the play.

Garett will still rely on Prescott steering the Cowboys’ attack, but is waiting for Romo’s return to fully make the Cowboys’ offense as potent as it should be, and they are seeing Romo getting his spot back by Week 7.

The Giants won their first opener since 2010, Ben McAdoo got a victory in his first game as an National Football League head coach, and there was plenty to like about the first real glimpse of the 2016 team. “So yeah, that looked like past year”. The Cowboys’ lone home win came nearly exactly a year ago on September 13, 2015.

You know those overall numbers that seemed pretty meh?

“I was just doing my best to get the team in a position to kick a field goal, but obviously I should have just followed the rules and gotten out of bounds”.

After an injury-filled 2015-2016 season made the Cowboys wary of luck and chance, the team is projected to have a better year, looking for a bounce back season after a horrific 4-12 showing last year.

“I thought it was great”. That is a good sign for the team moving forward.

“He’s technically not supposed to do what he did, but we’ll worry about that later”, said Manning, who threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns with an interception tht led the Cowboys’ only TD. That’s trite to say that. “But he kept it alive-that’s what he does”.

Though the loss really stung to open the season, there were some positives for this team to build on-or at least lean on-while the rest of the team tries to figure out their role for Week 2.

The first-year coach, promoted from offensive coordinator when the team parted with ways with Tom Coughlin, faced perhaps his toughest coaching decision late in the game, when the Giants were hanging on to the 1-point lead and had the ball on a fourth-and-1 at the Cowboys’ 37-yard line. The 2.6 yards-per-carry average is less than half what he averaged at Ohio State (6.7 yards per carry).
