With the offense scuffling, the defense and special teams stepped up.

The New York Giants elevated their record to 2-0 with a tough 16-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Hankins quietly has played quite well the first two weeks of the season. Up until the point when he suffered an injury, Newhouse allowed Jordan to out-power him in getting to Eli Manning.

The Giants won the game, which is the most important statistic. “We had the opportunity to sustain some drives and get some big plays that we weren’t able to capitalize on, would have gotten us some more points we might have gotten some more points, but I don’t think we were expecting to come here scoring 52”.

“It’s the redemption tour, man. We know what it takes and it’s not an individual goal”, Pierre-Paul said.

One of the scariest moments of Sunday’s National Football League action came in the Saints-Giants game, when New Orleans cornerback P.J. Thomas got hot late in the first half with back-to-back catches for 40 yards but was otherwise held in check.

The Saints highlight of the day might be the goal line stand they made midway through the fourth quarter.

Sterling Shepard proved that he will be a huge factor this season. Teams that start 0-2 on the season only make the playoffs 28 percent of the time. Brandon Cooks was the leading receiver for the Saints with 7 catches for 68 yards receiving. With 352 touchdown passes, he has 132 more than No. 2 on the Saints all-time list, Aaron Brooks.

Handed the ball on offense at the Giants’ 25-yard line, courtesy of linebacker Michael Mauti’s sack-and-strip of NY quarterback Eli Manning that was recovered by defensive end Paul Kruger, the Saints were in business with 4:06 remaining in the first half of a scoreless, defense-dominated first half. “Might have something to do with it”.

“We’ve got to find ways to either run it in or throw it and make those plays”, Manning said. It was the first field goal block for a touchdown for the Giants since 2008 in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Now they’re not anxious about “don’t lose a game”, they’re saying ‘hey, let’s go win this thing. “We are hoping if we hold a team to 14 points or less, we can win the ball game”.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done as a defense”.

Williams was injured after making a diving tackle on Giants tight end Larry Donnell and colliding with linebacker Craig Robertson who was tacking Donnell from the other side.

Williams was placed on a backboard, his neck stabilized as he was carted off the field for further evaluation. He appeared to be unconscious on the field, and players on both teams were visibly concerned.

On its television broadcast, FOX reported that Williams had lost consciousness, but could move his extremities. Williams was taken to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
