Giants, Eli Manning discuss contract

Condon remarked that “quarterbacks always get done” and that the Giants are a strong and established team that does not goof around with their players. It appears the Giants would like Manning, now 34 years old, to play out his career in New York. Jason Pierre-Paul was injured in a fireworks accident this offseason and he is still recovering from an amputated finger and fractures in his thumb. He also expressed confidence a deal would eventually get done.

Manning’s 2015 cap figure of more than $17 million is the highest among all quarterbacks other than Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions.

True enough, reports of a contract extension amounting to more than $20 million per year finally surfaced a month later. Manning is coming into the final year of his deal at the same time as fellow 2004 draft pick Philip Rivers, while Ben Roethlisberger already got a deal from the Steelers.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport says the Giants are hoping to reach a deal with the 34-year-old during the team’s training camp, or even before.

JPP and his situation is still being resolved and he likely will wait until he can pass a physical to sign his deal and show up. The Manning extension would save the Giants some cap space.

A team source said “there has been conversation” between the Giants and Manning’s representation, but would not attach any increased urgency to the talks.

In his career with the Giants, Manning has totaled a 91-76 record, 39,755 passing yards, 259 passing touchdowns, and 185 interceptions.

The Giants usually prefer to attend to their financial business before the start of camp, and Manning has been his typical low-key self about the negotiations and the possibility of heading into the season on the final year of his contract.

Last season, Manning was very good in the first season with Ben McAdoo as the offensive coordinator.
