Manning’s refusal to stand down after an injury-plagued and abbreviated week of practice led to one of his most humiliating days ever – a four-interception, 0.0-passer-rating embarrassment in a 29-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos may have ended his great career on the same day that he broke the NFL’s all-time passing record. He completed 5 of 20 passes for 35 yards with four interceptions and had a 0.0 passer rating.

Backup Broncos QB Brock Osweiler will start against the Bears a week after Peyton Manning was benched.

The bonus of Manning sitting because of his foot will be allowing the rest of his body to heal; keep him fresh for when the games are really make-or-break.

Osweiler understands that this opportunity is something that might not last.

“Im disappointed that Im injured, ” a somber Manning said at his locker. “If [Manning’s] healthy and ready to go, Peyton is our quarterback”, Kubiak said in Sunday’s news conference. It remains to be seen how long Manning will be out with his foot injury, but Kubiak said they will re-evaluate the situation next Monday.

Payton made a decision to go for it, eschewing a 49-yard field goal try, and C.J. Spiller was stuffed on the same side of the line.

“He came in Saturday and his ribs were bothering him a little bit”. For a big man he’s got good quickness, good athleticism.

Winning the game was one thing, but it was the way the Cardinals did it, Arians said Monday, that will help the team in its challenges ahead. After Manning was benched, Osweiler came in and threw for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Although Osweiler has only played sparingly since entering the league, he isn’t a stranger to the Bears. Manning has already been struggling, but he was particularly terrible against the Broncos.

Peyton Manning will not play for the Denver Broncos in Chicago this Sunday at 11 a.m. on CBS4.

“To be honest with you, I was protecting him”.

“I know that it’s the best decision for him, for us to get him back and healthy”.

Manning now has 17 interceptions and only 9 touchdown passes on the season, but still refused to use his injuries as a reason for his poor performance. “I know he seems like hes Superman, but hes banged up.

Given what Manning has been throughout his career – a durable passer who plays through everything and (mostly) plays well while doing so – coach Gary Kubiak thought his quarterback would be fine.
