Giants FB Whitlock suspended 10 games

Nikita Whitlock of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the team’s next 10 games for violating the National Football League policy on performance enhancing substances. Now it’s a good bet his Giants career is over too.

Injured New York Giants running back Nikita Whitlock was issued a 10-game suspension without pay Thursday by the NFL for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

He was carted off during the Giants’ third preseason game against the New York Jets with a possible Lisfranc injury. That means the news doesn’t really affect the Giants at all, since Whitlock wouldn’t be available to play this season, anyway. The second suspension will cost him $204,705 in salary.

The NFL then suspended Whitlock for four games without announcing a reason for the ban.

He caught on with the Giants’ practice squad in December 2014 and won the starting fullback job over incumbent Henry Hynoski in 2015. He became a bit of a sensation playing both fullback and defensive tackle in the 14 games before he injured his knee.

Those hopes were dashed after he suffered a foot injury in August, which landed him on the IR list.

Whitlock is the second Giants player to be suspended this season.

The Giants will be looking to improve to 2-0 on the season when they host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
