Giants get Matt Moore from Rays for Matt Duffy

But getting more left-handed in the rotation – as well as the bullpen, with Monday’s earlier deadline deal to acquire Will Smith from the Milwaukee Brewers – was a priority for a team that has lost 11 of 15 games since the All-Star break.

According to reports, the Giants have sent infielder Matt Duffy to Tampa Bay. The 25-year old isn’t arbitration eligible until 2018, which is right up the Rays’ alley of getting players back they can control for a number of years. Rays in exchange would receiver third baseman Matt Duffy, minor leaguer Lucius Fox and minor-leaguer Michael Santos. He was also with Augusta.

Moore is a 27-year-old lefty and will immediately join the Giants rotation.

Duffy, a gritty performer who finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year balloting last year, is on the disabled list and was nearing a return from a strained Achilles tendon. If all options are picked up, San Francisco gets an everyday starter through the 2019 season for roughly $26M, a bargain by any stretch of the imagination. In 2013, he won 17 games and had a 3.29 ERA.

The 26-year-old righthander has had a down season posting a 4.42 ERA, 10.7 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 22 starts for the Rays. Walks have always been an issue for Moore, but he’s only offering up 2.8 per every nine innings this season compared to a career mark of 4.1 heading into the season.
