Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul unchanged after injury says Justin Tuck

The Giants weren’t allowed in. “I’ve been in constant conversation with JPP”.

That was the consensus among current and former Giants players who participated in Monday’s Newark Mentoring Movement charity golf event at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City.

The bottom line is that Jason Pierre-Paul’s sheer athleticism can compensate for a lot.

Regardless, that is not the case now that he’s out the hospital and on the mend.

“I expect him to have a great year,” Tuck said.

“He is”, Tuck said.

“He is. He’ll be the first one to tell you he made a mistake. If they feel and if you need somebody to watch you going into your sixth year because of immaturity, yeah, that’s throwing up red flags for everybody all around”, Diehl said in part.

But the fireworks mishap has cast uncertainty on that Giants “D” and left many wondering whether Pierre-Paul can continue to be an impact defender. “He’s going to be able to”.

As Tuck alluded to, Pierre-Paul was unblockable in the second half of the Giants’ season, bringing down opposing quarterbacks nine times in the final five games. But Tuck – now entering his second year with the Oakland Raiders after leaving the Giants – and Pierre-Paul are very close, and Tuck said he’s giving his former protegé some straightforward advice toward continuing his career and bouncing back.

Tuck is confident it will happen.

“I think he will be [successful]”, he said. “I think once he gets used to playing again, then yeah (he’ll be fine.) You can’t deny his athletic ability”. He’s a terror to block. “His stance would be the only new thing”.

Former Giants offensive lineman Rich Seubert noted that losing a finger isn’t much different from having the index and middle fingers taped together, as linemen often do. They tape their fingers with regularity. A five-year, $60 million offer had been on the table, which Pierre-Paul never would have accepted. It won’t provide the offensive linemen with a huge weakness to attack.

“I think it’s silly [to assume it will affect him greatly], we all played through injuries”. “We all played through injuries”. I played through a bunch of injuries. “Everybody who’s played with him – myself included – you can’t ask and hope for nothing but the best”, Diehl told the New York Daily News.
