Giants manager returns to the team after brief hospital stay

The Marlins (60-53) and Giants (64-49) have split the first two games of the series.

Brandon Crawford came up with two on and two out against Brian Ellington, but there would be no late-game magic akin to Monday night. A 13 point raise on your average should make him a very happy man.

The first 7-hit game in the majors came from Wilbert Robinson, a catcher for the Baltimore Orioles – not those Baltimore Orioles, but the previous version of the team that in 1902 would see several defections to the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants (notably John McGraw) and then stop existing – in a game against the St. Louis Browns.

Bruce Bochy watched every pitch of Monday night’s game from a hospital bed and loved what he saw.

Stennett set a modern-era record by accomplishing the feat in a nine-inning game.

Crawford was hitless in four at-bats and the San Francisco Giants had only three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Miami Marlins.

The Giants scored five times in the seventh off three relievers and started the inning with six consecutive hits on their way to a 6-5 lead. “The history of the Giants with all of the great players that have come through, you would think that somebody pushed across seven hits in one day, but it’s pretty insane to be in pretty small company”.

“But with that said, we’ve got to find a way to get some runs”, Bochy said.

Texas have a more comfortable lead in the American League West, with a late rally at Colorado keeping them seven games clear of Seattle, which had a shutout win over Detroit.

“The four-pitch walks are the worst”, said Moore, who allowed both his runs in a first inning that began with a four-pitch walk to Dee Gordon.

“I think (Stanton is) alright”, Mattingly said. “He thought he was going to be able to get through the game today, but I think he’s all right”, Mattingly said. Martn Prado went to third and scored on Marcell Ozuna s ground out. It s amusing because you have to be in a certain situation and get the at-bats. Bochy was released from a Miami hospital after spending the night there with an undisclosed illness. “I’m sure he’s hit broken-bat home runs before”.

“There’s nothing else I want to do other than what I’m doing right now”, Bochy said . The Giants have some power in their line-up, some speed on their bases, and some players that just have the ability to get on base.

Those two runs were enough for Koehler, who shut out the Giants for seven innings on two hits in a 2-0 victory that evened the series between two teams vying in tight races for postseason spots. He needed 14 pitches to strike out two in a ideal inning.

Belt had a two-run double and Buster Posey followed with an RBI single. Crawford’s single in the eighth tied it at 7. “We’re hopeful, but it’s probably a 50-50 thing”, Mattingly said. Hunter Pence also had an RBI single to tie it at 5. Suzuki tipped his helmet to fans in appreciation before grounding out in his only at-bat.

Marlins: 1B Justin Bour (ankle) has taken a break from his rehab stint, citing soreness, but could return to the big league club on this homestand, which ends Sunday.

Koehler didn’t allow a hit until Angel Pagan fought off a fastball on the inner half and blooped it softly to left with two outs in the third.
