Giants players familiar with Tony Romo’s sub, Dak Prescott
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett hasn’t ruled out Romo for the Cowboys’ season opener, September 11 against the Giants, but given the reported severity of the injury, it stands to reason that Dak Prescott, the rookie quarterback out of Mississippi State who has wowed in the preseason, is now the Cowboys starting quarterback.

Garrett even declined to rule Romo out of the September 11 season opener against the New York Giants because Romo has played with fractured bones in his back before. Coach Jason Garrett would not speculate if the four-time Pro Bowler would miss the season opener against the Giants on September 11 at AT&T Stadium.
Multiple reports have speculated that Romo, who was injured in Thursday’s preseason game at Seattle, will not return before midseason. But during the call Garrett said there’s no timetable but that the quarterback would play this season. You have to think the Giants would take their chances with their revamped defense against a rookie making his first career start, especially given the fact Romo has been one of their chief tormentors over the years. The Cowboys haven’t done a good job facing adversity caused by previous Romo injuries, but the hope this time is that Dak Prescott can keep the offense from falling off track without Romo. This was why it was important for the Patriots to get Edelman some game reps with both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo before the September 11 regular-season opener.
“I don’t know if a number of snaps makes a difference if I’m ready or not”, said Prescott, who is 39 of 50 passing for 454 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in three preseason games. He has also rushed for two touchdowns. According to Ian Rapoport the Cowboys expect Romo to be back mid-season.
“Obviously our focus will be on Dak in terms of the first part of this season”, Jones said.
Heading into last season, the Cowboys thought all would be well with the return of Tony Romo and Dez Bryant from injury and Greg Hardy and Rolando McClain from suspension, only to have their second-worst season of Jones’ ownership.
The Dallas Cowboys are now getting ready for some pretty serious roster cuts. The chemistry is there with the players and that’s what we’re going to focus on.
The deal was announced while the team was in Denver for an exhibition game Saturday night. Perennial practice squad quarterback Jameill Showers will also factor into the quarterback discussion however he may just become the primary backup. But with head coach Jason Garrett telling reporters that Romo is now wearing a back brace, the timetable doesn’t appear to be any time soon. But it is still banned by the NFL.
Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said earlier this week that every player has a price tag when talking about how much it would take to accept a trade for Josh Gordon.

The Cowboys already have three players suspended by the National Football League for violating the substance policy – defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence (four games) and Randy Gregory (10 game) and linebacker Rolando McClain (10 games).
