Giants’ Posey leaves game after taking foul ball off mask

It didn’t take long for the 22-year-old to remind everyone why he’s one of the most exciting young players in the game.

Fernandez can finally put those dominoes away until the offseason.

What can be expected of Jose Fernandez and of the Miami Marlins now that he has returned from Tommy John surgery? That’s an attendance number they have eclipsed only four times this season: Opening Day, two games against the Yankees last month and University of Miami Family Day, the first Saturday in May.

The Marlins have dubbed Thursday #JoseDay at the ballpark and every fan in attendance will receive a “Jose Head” giveaway. There remains no timetable to activate him until they get a better read on how his left wrist tendinitis will respond. It’s like watching a track star run on a little league field.

But cheap seats aren’t the real reason Thursday’s game will be well-attended.

It also gave a welcome jolt of offense to a team without injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton. In fact, the Marlins pitcher in the eighth, Carter Capps, struck out all three hitters with the strangest pitching motion I’ve ever seen. She needed an emotional lift.

“Sure, we’re not happy with it”, Bochy said.

Miami Marlins middle infielder Dee Gordon is really fast. Although his career has been a brief one, he’s been exceptional when he’s out on the bump. While things look grim for the fish, they aren’t completely bad. “That one just happened to run back over the plate”.

Cain will be able to throw in the vicinity of 100 pitches, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Buster is the Giants secret weapon against the pitcher who loves to hate us. He was so sweet to her. He would call her his girlfriend and she would blush.

“I knew he was going to go until somebody stopped him”. But Giants fans don’t forget a slight that easily. He smiled Tuesday when he was reminded about his now 94-year-old girlfriend.

“That was the kick I tried to get that I didn’t have”, he said. No, seriously. It’s the second long ball of Fernandez’s career.

Fernandez has always been in a hurry. The Giants bullpen let down in the bottom half, as Jean Machi’s leadoff walk led to a run. During that stretch, Fernandez is 12-0 with a 1.09 ERA at home. The Giants have won six of their last eight games when scoring more than three runs. By Brooks Baseball, his fastball averaged about 96 miles per hour coming out of the hand from the start of 2013 to his penultimate start against the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

Thirteen months ago, Fernandez was set to undergo rehab after the major elbow surgery and one Marlins superfan, nicknamed ‘The Jose Guy, ‘ decided that he wouldn’t shave or cut his hair until Fernandez was back on the mound, as mentioned by For the Win.
