Giants re-sign offensive tackle Will Beatty

In what has to be considered a major surprise, multiple reports this afternoon indicate that offensive tackle Will Beatty is returning to the New York Giants. Being a rookie left tackle in the National Football League is a challenging task, and injuries didn’t help him prove what he is capable of. While rehabbing his torn pectoral muscle, it was discovered that Beatty injured his rotator cuff and would require surgery.

The Giants released Beatty in February to free up space under the salary cap. Beatty can earn an additional $750,000 in incentives, according to Caplan. The Jaguars reportedly made him an offer.

In their recent loss to the New York Jets, the Giants’ offensive line looked very bad against Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams. They have four first downs and 88 total yards in four quarters with quarterback Eli Manning on the field.

The Giants have solidified the left side of their offensive line with center Weston Richburg, guard Justin Pugh, and last year’s first-round pick offensive tackle Ereck Flowers.

It would seem likely that Beatty should be able to take the job quickly from Newhouse at right tackle. He struggled in 2013 but played better in 2014.

The Giants’ need for help on the offensive line, however, and the fact that the 31-year-old Beatty was still out of work less than two weeks before the beginning of the regular season, has led to the two sides coming back together. Newhouse quipped that “the sky isn’t falling” in relation to the Giants’ problem on the O-line.

And it’s a familiar face too.
