Giants rookie receiver Shepard making big contributions

“I would have been more of a voice to interject and tell him, ‘You don’t need to do this”.

Norman was asked Wednesday about his on-field altercation with Beckham last season, which climaxed when he threw the Giants wideout to the ground for no discernible reason during a pass play. It is unlikely that a shoving match between two players can go on this long.

Okay, this is just my idea: Each team treats this like hockey and has a bigger dude ready to jump in to protect the two stars. However, the Giants also have weapons in wide receivers Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard, so Norman could spend some time covering them depending on the flow of the game.

Kirk Cousins has been very shaky throughout the first two weeks, to say the least. Their partnership was highly anticipated when Beckham began his career in 2014. His reception total is one less than Beckham’s team-leading total and his yardage is one more than Beckham’s total.

It’s hard to believe, but the National Football League schedule is already at the Week 3 mark.

It is expected that Norman will follow Beckham on Sunday.

Giants punter Brad Wing is one of Beckham’s closest friends, and in the days following the latter’s one-game suspension for his actions against Norman on that fateful December 20 day, the two former college teammates at LSU spoke often about the lessons learned. Their relationship is that solid.

Then later in an interview with GQ in July, Beckham had this to say about Norman’s huge new contract with Washington: “It goes back to what I was saying”. They are too inexperienced in the backfield, lack power up front and have too many other weapons in the passing game.

“We did exactly what we were going to do in practice”, he said. Norman said. “Shoot man, that’s the competitor that’s inside of me, man”. The most flagrant action came in the third quarter when Beckham delivered a diving helmet-to-helmet hit on All-Pro Norman while blocking. Cruz made the Giants’ roster in 2010 as a walk-on free agent from the University of MA, while Beckham was a first-round pick in 2014. The New York Giants gave a combined $141.5 million to defensive linemen in free agency this year, and the investments have been paying off. You think I was feeling happy-go-lucky going into the locker room at halftime on the road having taken a knee to cost my team three points or a possible touchdown? No. The Giants defense may have only recorded two sacks on the day, but their special teams made the biggest impact, blocking a 35-yard Saints field goal attempt, and returning it for a touchdown courtesy of Janoris Jenkins. But if he did get the opportunity to face Beckham all game, he said he would welcome the challenge.

Those appear to be fighting words, and perhaps even a guarantee that Norman will shut down Beckham on the field the next time the two see each other.

It still seems likely Jennings’ workload will be reduced. No, this is all about making plays, not making noise.

Beckham also has a plan for handling the Redskins, winless defending NFC East champions who are hungry to hand the undefeated Giants their first loss of 2016.
