With a buzzer-beater from half-court, the San Francisco Giants may have ended up the biggest victor among all the contenders at this year’s trade deadline. He hit.294/.334/.428 in 149 games in his rookie season a year ago and was looking like one of the key building blocks of the future for the Giants.
Duffy was an 18th-round selection by the Giants in the 2012 June Draft out of Long Beach State University, which also produced current Rays third baseman Evan Longoria.
As the hours begin to wind down, the pressure goes up for the San Francisco Giants to make a move for pitching, but they may have found their man in Matt Moore. He posted a 2.41 ERA in July.
He is batting.207/.305/.277 (59-for-285) in 75 games this season with Class-A Augusta, and his 25 stolen bases rank sixth in the South Atlantic League.
Moore, 27, is 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA (130-IP, 59-ER) in 21 starts this season. Odorizzi is 5-5 with a 3.88 ERA. He missed more than a year after needing Tommy John surgery. He finishes his Rays career ranking among the franchise’s all-time leaders with 39 wins (sixth), a. 582 winning percentage (fourth, minimum 50 decisions), 94 starts (tied-sixth) and 494 strikeouts (fifth).
On Wednesday, Moore held the Dodgers to an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings of a 3-1 victory at Dodger Stadium.
